The Nikkor Z 28-135mm F/4 PZ is Nikon's first full-frame Z-Mount lens specifically designed for video. Built to support videographers and film makers, this compact, rugged lens resolves high-definition 8k video footage straight from the camera, and it’s light enough to shoot handheld or using a gimbal.
Video-specific optical design
The complex optical construction features 18 elements in 13 groups and minimises distortion at any shooting distance. For the best possible anti-reflection performance, Meso Amorphous Coat significantly reduces unwanted ghosting and flare caused by bright light sources. Footage is remarkably clear, even if shooting under strong sunlight or studio lighting.
Compact & lightweight
With servo zoom control and a gimbal-friendly weight of just 1210g (including tripod collar), this compact Z mount 28-135mm power zoom lens is at home in a cage, and it’s equally comfortable on a tripod. It stays beautifully balanced thanks to an internal motor that smoothly manages the zoom range. The centre of gravity barely shifts at all, a mere 2 mm from wide angle to telephoto.
Intuitive handling
A yellow ring signifies this is a Z mount video lens, while Nikon’s renowned ergonomics enable comfortable handling. The focus, zoom, and control rings are customisable and different knurling on each lets you identify them without looking. The zoom lever is well positioned for operating the camera at waist or shoulder height, and its textured surface prevents fingers from slipping.
Power zoom
This power zoom video lens offers fine control over the look and feel of footage, and it can be a game-changer for one person crews. For reframing a scene between takes, you can use position record and recall whether you’re shooting remotely or in ‘normal’ mode. Simply set the starting zoom position for framing your shot, then recall it when you want to reset your framing for another take.
There are 11 different levels of motorised zoom speed, so you can select the perfect increment for your footage in the camera menu then relax as the power zoom smoothly delivers1. Zoom speed settings can also be assigned to the zoom lever on the lens or one of the camera’s Fn buttons, for quick access while recording.
For remote zooming, the power zoom can be adjusted using a PC with NX Tether installed, or a smart device running SnapBridge or NX Field.
Ease-in and ease-out
For organic-looking transitions, ease-in and ease-out let you start and finish movements with a natural tapering of zoom speed. Whether you’re shooting at waist or shoulder level, you get fingertip control of the internal motorised zoom thanks to the zoom lever on the side of the lens barrel.
When you need more reach, you can activate Hi-Res Zoom via your Nikon Z camera and extend the range of this power zoom lens by 2x when shooting in 4K. You’ll be able to reach up to 270mm without changing lenses: there’s no loss in resolution and depth of field is maintained.
You can also combine the power zoom and Hi-Res Zoom by activating Synchro integration in your camera. With the two systems operating as one, you can achieve smooth transitions from the power zoom to the Hi-Res zoom.
Compatible with a wide range of cages and mounts
The Nikkor Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ lens is compatible with a wide range of cages and mounts, and is shaped so that it’s easy to attach a matte box. The focus ring has a gear pitch of 0.8 m so that you can work with standard follow focus systems, while the rectangular hood (included) boasts a filter adjustment window that lets you keep using the 95 mm filters you have.

High-performance sealing keeps dust, dirt, and moisture away from all moving parts, including the lens mount. Nikon’s non-stick fluorine coat protects the front element and keeps it easy to clean, plus you won’t need to worry if your fingers accidentally touch the surface of the lens while changing filters.
