Dust and moisture-resistant, this tough L-series lens is one of the most popular lenses among advanced and professional DSLR camera owners. This lens’ 4-stops of advanced image stabilisation allows photographers to work at slower shutter speeds and limits the use of higher ISO sensitivity settings. Even at the extremes of its focal length, the Canon EF 100-400mm produces images with strong shallow depth of field effects, despite its f/4.5-5.6 aperture range. The 9-blade aperture construction of this lens helps it to deliver attractive out-of-focus highlights as the lens creates attractive separation between the intended subject and the background. .
A single high quality Super Ultra-low dispersion (Super UD) glass element and one Fluorite element is included in the structure of this super-telephoto zoom lens. It also benefits from Canon’s Ultrasonic Motor (USM) focusing technology, quietly and quickly moving its 21 glass elements in 16 groups, for accurate focusing. It also offers full-time manual focus override, enabling photographers to make fine adjust focus quickly without switching off AF. One major difference between the Mark II version of this lens and the previous version, is that the zoom functionality is rotary, as opposed to a push-pull mechanism. Working this way improves stability and focusing distance.
