The New Nikon D5600
Bags of detail
Because the D5600's sensor has no low-pass filter (OLPF), its 24 million pixels are able to capture an impressive amount of detail, bringing your images to life.
And because 24 million pixels are more than enough to make large prints, there's plenty of scope for cropping your shots for tighter framing of your subject - that's especially useful if you're just starting out and you don't have a long lens.
The D5600 also has a superb autofocus system so you can be absolutely sure that your subject will be sharp.
Easy sharing
Thanks to Nikon's clever SnapBridge technology, you can connect the D5600 wirelessly to a smartphone or tablet (iOS or Android) and images will transfer automatically from the camera to the phone - even if the camera is turned off.
It means you can shoot with the quality of a dedicated camera, and get the benefit of a large sensor, but share images as easily as if they were taken on your phone - and get them online immediately!
And don't worry about your phone's memory filling up quickly - you can select to transfer 2MP versions of your images instead of the full resolution files.
Find an angle
The screen on the back of the D5600 is mounted on a vari-angle hinge which makes it easy to see whatever angle you're shooting from. You just need to activate Live View mode, and you'll be able to see the shot on the screen. No more dirty knees when you want to get a low-level shot: just tip the screen up and you've got a great view.
And because the screen is touch-sensitive, you can set the focus point (and even fire the shutter) with a tap, or scroll through images quickly in review mode. The vari-angle screen also comes in really handy when you're shooting video.
Creative shooting modes
In addition to advanced modes like manual, shutter priority, aperture priority and program, the D5600 has automatic shooting modes and scene modes to help with shooting subjects like portraits, landscapes, children, parties and beach or snow scenes (to mention just a few).
There are also some Special Effect modes such as Night Vision, Super Vivid, Pop, Photo Illustration, Toy Camera Effect, Miniature Effect, Selective Color, Silhouette, High key and Low key which allow you to take more creative photographs without having to use the menu or spend ages on editing apps.
Thanks to Nikon's new Time-lapse movie option you can also create fantastic short videos over long periods of time to record films such as clouds rolling past, the sun rising or setting and the movement of traffic - or any number of long-duration events.
Lovely lenses
As the D5600 has the Nikon F lens mount, this makes it compatible with Nikon's huge lens line-up. You can purchase it as a kit with the Nikon AF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-P VR lens, which is a great 'everyday' lens, or the Nikon AF-S 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR, which gives a bit more reach and is useful if subjects are likely to be further away.
Both optics have Nikon's excellent Vibration Reduction (VR) to minimise the impact of camera shake and ensure sharp shots as light levels fall.
