It's been over 2 years since we received the announcement of the Fujifilm XT-1, which has turned out to be a firm favorite in the X-Series and has been responsible for converting many DSLR users over to the X-mount system. Now, in 2016, Fujifilm have unveiled another new member to the X Series family in the form of the eagerly awaited XT-2.
Straight after you get your hands on this camera you'll instantly know that this is more than just a refreshed XT-1. The body shape is large but has subtle and slight alternations that make it even more comfortable in your hands. The card slot has been revamped with a catch release and houses twin UHS 2 class SD card slots.
This body doesn't just feel better, it's clever too... with 63 points of weather sealing, improved dial locks, and an additional axis of motion for the articulated screen giving it full 3D movement. The viewfinder has even been updated to display at 100 fps for real-time previews.
The first major upgrade is the 24.3 Megapixel X-Trans sensor, which is supported by the new X Professional processor. This combination of hardware has given the XT-2 a serious speed boost with high speed continuous shooting at 11 fps that can be expanded even further to 14 fps when using the electronic shutter. The shutter is hard wearing with a maximum speed of 1/8000th of a second and has been rated to 150,000 shots. The additional processing power delivers powerful exposure compensation with +/- 5 EV options available.
The focusing system on this latest addition has also expanded the lower speed capabilities with a choice of 3,4 or 5 fps on the continuous low shooting mode. In addition to those upgrades the XT-2 also has a total of 325 fully selectable autofocus points and a fully customizable continuous AF system, meaning that it is massively flexible for a wide range of photographers.
The XT-2 offers up a first for the Fujifilm X-Series, this camera can record up to 4K video at 30fps internally. The addition of ultra-high definition video recording and tethered shooting options to Adobe Lightroom* means that the XT-2 can be used on a massively flexible media platform, capable of being set for a wide variety of subjects and situations.
All in all a fantastic addition to the Fujifilm X-Series and certainly worth consideration by many photographers.
