Fujifilm X-A3 announced
Bags of detail
Inside the Fujifilm X-A3 is a newly-developed APS-C format sensor with 24.2 million effective pixels, which means it’s capable of resolving lots of detail. Also, Fuji’s lenses have a great reputation and the X-A3 comes with the Fujinon XC 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS II, a perfect general-purpose optic. This lens has a stabilisation system built-in, and when used with the X-A3’s electronic stabilisation system, there’s compensation for accidental movements across all five axis to help reduce blur in still images and shakes in Full HD videos.
Sensitivity can be set in the standard range of ISO 200-6400, but if low light levels demand it it’s possible to extend the range up to ISO 12,800 and 25,600.
Retro design and easy to use
The top cover, front plate and top dials of the X-A3 are made of aluminum, which, as well as giving the camera a very stylish appearance, means it’s nice and solid in your hand. There are also two command dials that make it quick and easy to adjust exposure, while frequently used functions like white balance, drive mode and the self-timer can be assigned to customisable buttons for speedy access. In addition, the touch-sensitive screen can be used to set the AF point, fire the shutter or even ‘zoom’ when a prime lens is mounted.
Thanks to the X-A3’s built-in Wi-Fi system it’s also possible to control the camera remotely using a connected smartphone or tablet. Naturally, you can also transfer images to your phone to share on your favourite social site.
Slide-and-tilt LCD
A clever new slide-and-tilt mechanism allows the X-A3’s screen to be tipped-up through 180 degrees and elevated above the camera so that it’s completely visible, making it ideal for composing selfies. Conveniently, the vertical command dial, which falls directly beneath your index finger, can be used to activate the focusing and release the shutter without introducing camera shake.
Further good news is that Eye Detection AF activates automatically when the LCD screen is tipped-up through 180 degrees, so it’s always ready to get your most important features super-sharp.
What’s more, because the XC 16-50mm lens can focus from as little as 7cm from the front element (the front-most part of the lens), you don’t need crazily long arms to get yourself in focus.
Film Simulation modes
Fuji’s Film Simulation modes are very popular because they employ the company’s experience of producing film to create fantastic images in-camera. The X-A3 has 11 Film Simulation modes in total including the standard Provia option, Velvia for producing more vibrant colours, Astia for a softer tones and the widely favoured Classic Chrome along with the new PRO Neg.Hi and PRO Neg.Std. which are ideally suited for portraits and selfies. These Film Simulation modes can be used when you’re shooting stills or video so your movies can have the same attractive appearance as your photos.
